Anoa

Bubalus depressicornis

Animals of Asia Back
Being one of the smallest wild cattle species, anoas are usually solitary but can be found in herds of up to 5 individuals. They are native to the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia, but have been spotted on offshore islands. This suggests that anoas are excellent swimmers and can swim long distances. They are known to be territorial. The males will mark trees by scratching their horns against the trunks and will also scratch the soil after urination.
