Animals of All Regions
Contrary to popular belief, the black bear is not an aggressive species. When encountered by humans, its first instinct is to run, not fight, unless it has been habituated by humans feeding it.
The black bear is not a true hibernator. Although it will remain dormant throughout the winter, feeding off the body fat built up through summer and fall, it can wake up if disturbed. In mid-winter, a pregnant female will give birth and will nurse her cubs until spring when it is time to go out and search for food. Cubs remain with their mother for about 2 years.
