Red-crested Cardinal

Paroaria coronata

Animals of All Regions Back
Red-crested cardinals can most often be found in pairs or groups of 3 to 5 individuals. Although the male is the one who builds the nest, the female has the final opinion on whether she approves or not. If her partner ever loses sight of her, he will make a guttural sound to call for her.

Adult red-crested cardinals have a red crest, as suggested by their name, and a white bill. Juveniles, on the other hand, have a brown crest and black bill.
