Malayan Great Argus Pheasant

Argusianus argus

Animals of All Regions Back
Having one of the loudest calls of all birds, this species is easily able to locate family members or scare off any predators that might be lurking nearby. A male’s loud vocals are also used to attract females by announcing his presence, followed by the spreading open of his secondary wing feathers into two fans, thus displaying hundreds of “eyes” (ocelli). Once a male has mated with the female, she will leave the male to lay her eggs and incubate them without his help. The male, on the other hand, will go on to try to find another hen.
