Demoiselle Crane

Anthropoides virgo

Animals of All Regions Back
Like all cranes, this species often participates in “dances” as part of courtship rituals, as well as simply for the fun of it. That is to say, while dancing leads to monogamous pair building in adults, for youngsters it helps them to learn to develop their social skills. These dances include a series of bows, leaps, runs, and short flights. Demoiselle cranes will also pick up any objects that are within their vicinity and begin to throw them up in the air with their bills.

Prefers to feed on seeds and plants, but can be seen, usually during summer, feeding on insects
