Cheetahs are adapted for brief but intense bursts of speed. A cheetah can go from 0 to 60 miles (96 kilometers) an hour in only three seconds. This makes the cheetah the world's fastest land mammal.
Cheetahs are active during the day. Their distinctive spotted coat helps the cat to blend into their environment.
Cheetahs have great eyesight that they use to find signs of prey in the tall dry grasses that make up their habitat. Once prey is spotted the cheetah will sprint after its prey and knock it down. It will then move the prey to a shady spot and protect it from other animals that may also want to take advantage of the meal.
Cheetahs are well adapted to an arid climate. They only need to drink once every three to four days.
