Addax

Addax nasomaculatus

Animals of Africa Back
Addax antelopes are highly adapted to the arid environment of the desert in which the live. They rarely have to drink water as they get most of the water they need to survive from the plants that they like to eat. Also, addax have broad and flat hooves that allow them to easily walk along the desert sand without sinking.
Addax antelopes are social animals, congregating in herds of 5 to 20 animals. Living in these herds provides protection since the addax antelope is not a very fast runner; a single antelope is easy prey for its predators.
